Accra Technical University (ATU) proudly marked a historic presence at the 6th edition of the Kumasi Debate Open (KDO) held from May 21st to 25th, 2025.
With a vibrant and determined 19-member contingent comprising 18 debaters and their coach, Mr. Michael Koranteng, ATU’s Debate Society proved its growing strength and depth. The team featured a perfect balance of 9 experienced debaters and 9 first-timers, as well as a gender-diverse mix of 10 females and 8 males. This balanced composition played a crucial role in what turned out to be one of ATU’s most successful outings at the KDO yet.

This year’s tournament will be remembered as a landmark in ATU’s debating journey. Notably, the team:

- Secured the highest number of public speakers in any final for the university to date.

Looking Ahead
KDO 2025 served as both a benchmark and a launchpad for the team’s future ambitions. With renewed vigor, the team now sets its sights on hosting and excelling in the Ghana Universities Debate Championship (GUDC), as well as representing Ghana at the Pan-African Universities Debate Championship (PAUDC) this December in South Africa—building on last year’s impactful showing in Uganda.
The ATU Debate Society extends heartfelt gratitude to university management for their consistent support and belief in the power of academic excellence. With passion, preparation, and purpose, the team remains committed to flying the ATU flag even higher.
